I just
recently bought a blue roan
Tennessee Walking Horse colt
from Mr. Holmes. The colt,
Blue Streak, aka Lakota is the
youngest colt I have ever
purchased. I was concern about
looking at a colt without my
husband to help me make a
decision, using his knowledge
and not me, using my feelings to
get the new baby. So I loaded
up the truck with a couple of
friends and a lot of hope as I
headed to Mr. Holmes Farm in
Missouri. The trip went very
quick as I told my friends what
I was looking for in a colt and
to discourage me if the colt
didn’t have these things.
We got there.
Mr. Holmes was a great host. He
was very helpful and patient as
my friends and I pretending like
we knew what we were doing as we
looked over the colt. The colt
was beautiful even though he is
only 6 months old and has his
winter coat. His conformation
was great, his disposition and
temperament was exactly what I
was looking for. Then when I
saw him rack and yes, I said
rack, I knew he was going home
to Kentucky with me. The 6
month old colt loaded up in my
trailer as if he was an older,
more experienced horse. I got
him home, and he unloaded and
walked passed all the strange
objects that were in my barn
right to his stall without
hesitation.
Mr. Holmes
has an excellent set up for his
family of mares, stallions and
colts. It is very obvious he
knows what he is doing and is
raising top of the line
Tennessee Walking Horses. If
you are looking for a dream
colt, that has color,
conformation, and natural gait
check out Mr. Holmes’ Farm in
Sikeston, Mo. You won’t
be disappointed. |

I purchased my first buckskin
foal from Jim Holmes,
Lady Bella Marie. She is
everything that anyone could
ever ask for in a horse! She is
extremely well mannered,
exceptionally smart and she is
so beautiful. Her gait is also
natural and very impressive, as
it seems like she floats through
the air.
When we came to visit Mr.
Holme's farm, he provided us
with great hospitality and
you can tell he cares a lot
for each and every one of
his horses. I would
extremely recommend a
buckskin from Jim Homes Farm
to anyone!
Thank you so much for
selling me my perfect
partner!

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your
hospitality last week when
we visited Holmes Farm. It
was nice to meet Buck, the
Mares and Foals. Buck has a
calm, laid back nature
which, is clear to me, is
passed along to his foals.
I was amazed at how quiet,
content and tolerant the
mares were with a band of
horse crazy women fussing
over their colts and fillies
while we were in their
pasture. They were all
curious and loved the
attention. Your herd are
all healthy, well fed and of
sound mind.
See you
soon.

Subject: So happy with our
horses
Mr. Holmes,
Our babies are now 17 and 18
months. Not really babies any
more, Buck's Magic Marker and
Buck's Chicago Dude are now
referred to as Denny and Cisco.
They began as a project for my
son and I who are the 2 horse
lovers in the family. Our deal
was that I would do all the care
and he would be the one to
saddle break them. Our first try
with raising colts couldn't be
going any better, not to mention
they are the sweeties and most
beautiful animals.
We will be back for more in the
next year!!
Thank you again.

Jim, what fantastic horses
you are breeding.
I bought my first ever foal from
you, Katy's Buck A Roo. I
thought I might be getting in
over my head buying a baby. She
is now 5 years old and she is a
dream. Not only does she have
the prettiest gaits you have
ever seen she has a great mind.
She climbs mountains like a
mountain goat and rarely spooks
at anything. I have taken her to
do extreme trail with tires to
walk through and flags flapping
and even a seesaw bridge. She
did them all for me without
hardly any hesitation. I get
more compliments on this mare
than you can imagine because she
is beautiful.
Thanks Jim, for selling me this
dream horse! |

Hello,
I found Buck´s Precious Maggie
in the Internet and purchased
her without seeing her in real
and had her brought to Germany.
I thought this would be a high
risk deal. But I got all
assistance, information, videos
and photographs and also time I
needed from Jim Holmes to help
me make up my mind. And what I
got was the best. She shows her
nice gaits naturally on the
pasture. She is very sensitive
just as she is sensitive to me,
very gentle. And she looks great
in color and conformation. I am
sure she will be all what I
want, if she is grown, at the
moment surely she is it. Thank
you, Jim Holmes, for this
wonderful horse.
Best regards

Hey Jim,
I am finally
getting around to Thank
you for my second Buck
foal. She is a full
sister to my last year stud. She arrived in
excellent condition. I had
surgery two weeks after
her arrival just now
getting to know her.
Like her brother she can
gait and has a loving
personality. The move did
not slow her growth. She
may be stouter built
than her brother, which
will make her a good
brood mare and trail
horse.
Thanks for
another good horse. She
is a doll. Will be an
eye catcher. |

It is truly a pleasure to work with Mr. Jim Holmes and his horses!
I have never been around young horses that have been as easy to "start" than his horses have been, being "naturally gaited", intelligent horses. In my 20+ years of riding horses for other people, this is the first time I have ever wanted to own one of those horses. I am proud to have one of the best mares I have ever ridden.....Madison's Mighty Coco.
I look forward to continue working with such fine horses.
Thanks Mr. Jim!!!

I can't say enough great things about Mr. Jim Holmes and his horses!! Mr. Jim has renewed my faith in horse-breeders, after having several bad experiences. He has been a pleasure to do business with, always open, honest, and fair. Always willing to do what it takes to make his clients happy! My only complaint is that I didn't meet him 6 years ago!!
I currently have two of his fine colts, one gelding and one filly. Both are already being ridden bareback (as 2 year olds) by my 12 yo daughter!!!
WOW!
I can say that I would NEVER purchase another horse from anyone other than Mr. Jim Holmes!
THANKS!

We recently
purchased an amazing young mare,
Bucks Gypsy Rose. She has been a
ton of fun to work with on the
trail. Since I first got on her
back, total trust. She is
willing and fast to learn, very
patient. Once she figures out
what your asking her to do, you
never have to ask again. She
has the sweetest disposition and
open mind I have ever come
across. My trainer and I are
having so much fun working
w/her. We have a very populated
area, but nothing seems to faze
her. She loves to be out front
to show off her beauty and gait,
which hands down, is 2nd to
none. She can go forever. I
look forward to the many years
we'll have together. It's just
going to get better. Icing on
the cake, she is the most
beautiful color. When the sun
reflects off her back, it is
luminescent gold that is
awesome. I was a little worried
purchasing a horse over the
internet but she turned out to
be as easy you promised. She
arrived at our front door in
wonderful condition and ready to
be w/her new family. Thank you
all for you help and being so
honest w/us. It was obvious she
had been well trained and
trained w/a kind hand. She
loves her people. This has
been stress free. We love her!

I recently bought my new herd
sire, sight unseen from Jim.
This colt is gorgeous, smart,
has a fun personality and best
of all, he can gait like nothing
I've seen before. Buck's Rascal
Flatt never trots, he only gaits
. So many "color breeders" just
breed for color but Jim breeds
for outstanding quality and true
gaits as well. I live in New
Mexico and traveling in the
winter was not an option so I
had to rely on Jim to help me
select the right horse for me.
This colt is exactly what I had
hoped for. In fact, I am so
impressed by the quality of this
stallion that I am looking to
buy another from Holmes Farms.
Jim, you did a great job
producing this colt. Thank you.

Jim I want to thank you for
the way you made me feel
comfortable in purchasing a
colt that was just a month
old. And could only see him
on the internet. The
information you gave me
about his dam and sire was
very helpful in making the
decision to buy this little
fellow.
You have some of the
best bred brood mares as I
have found anywhere. And the
stallion you have is
awesome. I don't believe I
could have found a better
cross fore a generator mare.
When my colt arrived on
Nov. 12th he was just 4 mo.
and 10 days old. I was very
concerned as to how he would
fare on the two day trip.
When he walked off the truck
I was very satisfied with
his condition. He was every
thing you said and more. He
and I bonded very quick. He
follows me every where I go.
Within three days he was
settled in and very much at
home. His gait is wonderful.
I couldn't have ask for him
to be any better. He will be
a beautiful stallion and I
can hardly wait till he is
old enough to get on him. If
he continues to be as easy
to handle as he is now he
won't have to be broke, just
start riding.
Jim thanks so much for
your help. I feel like I
have gained a friend as well
as a great horse. You will
be hearing from Buck's
Trigger Happy and Jimmy
Lancaster. If you are ever
in Florida stop by and see
us. I will be through your
home town in June and plan
to stop by your place.

I am now a proud new owner of a beautiful stud colt I bought from Jim Holmes. I found dealing with Jim to be easy and friendly. Jim always replied to any emails I sent and is very personable. I was able to feel comfortable about buying a horse that I could only see pictures of on the internet.
I live on 320 acres in the middle of Alberta, Canada. Traveling to look at prospects wasn't an option. I had full confidence in purchasing this weanling colt. Jim's website has all the information about his horses making it easy to find what I was looking for in a future herd sire.
My new boy arrived at my place after 4 days on the road Sept. 15th 2010. He walked off the trailer and was a beautiful sight. He is everything I had hoped for and more. This boy has a huge stride and a fast natural running walk. He just floated all over his paddock as he checked out his new surroundings. I have slowly building my Walker herd for the past 4 years and never seen anything quite as beautiful as his movement. I am so proud to be his new owner and will spend many years showing him off. Not only does he have an outstanding pedigree, but his gait is to die for and to top it all off he is a beautiful buckskin color making him the whole perfect package.
Jim Holmes is a man worth dealing with. He knows his horses and he cares about them. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quality Tennessee Walking horse to have a look at Jim's herd. His foals are outstanding. A huge thank you goes to Jim for making this a wonderful experience for me. I have no doubts I made the right choice.

For anyone exploring this website who is unfamiliar with Jim Holmes and his operation, let me tell you that he is one of the most respected, knowledgeable, and straight-dealin’ breeders out there. His focus on natural heritage lines of Walkers and the honest way he deals with his customers has given him a unique position within the Tennessee Walker world.
Like many posts here, we too live thousands of miles from Jim’s farm so visiting him is very difficult with the demands of our ranch. But Jim is one of those breeders you can deal with from a distance. We recently purchased a beautiful Palomino mare from Jim and she was everything he said she was and more. We are extremely happy with her. The sale went quickly and without fuss or hassle. There are very few people I would ever buy a horse from sight unseen, but Jim’s the exception. His reputation is paramount within this specialized industry and he’s a pleasure doing business with. His stallion’s not too shabby either! Howard Davis,

Like Jim Holmes, we have had a life long passion for the flat shod head-shaking walking horses. Since the 1950's when horse shows became popular, the need for high stepping performance show horses was required. With the
Walker that meant breeding for the consistent pace. This proved to give a very animated gait when weighted down. Over the years, good natural trail horses became harder to find, with a few exceptions. Jim Holmes with his knowledge and long time association with
Walkers, is one of those exceptions. As breeders of good flat shod horses, we seek out people like Jim. We have found his straight way of talking
comes with an integrity which is hard to come by in this world today.
We are located in Canada, 1000 miles from Jim's farm. We cannot just go and visit to see his stock, other than what we see on his website. There is more to purchasing a horse than looking at pictures. With Jim, we found we could rely on his word and description of a particular horse to be accurate. The paper work needed to ship horses abroad needs to be complete and precise. In all cases, with the horses we have purchased from Jim, crossing the border was a breeze.
Yes! Jim is definitely an asset to our industry and we are hopeful our association is long and fruitful.
